A little history...

Fall, 2019 - Our brand-new organization installed the Spruce Park Pollinator Garden after receiving a Mississauga Small Projects Grant. Thanks to help from over 150 community volunteers, the garden beds were constructed, filled and seeded, plus the murals were painted, all in just four weekends! Every year since then, a core BB volunteer team has maintained the garden, lead by dedicated BB members Catherine and Neil Fleming.

Check out our YouTube video showing the enthusiastic making of this garden and its murals in 2019.

Then, in 2023 we received a TD Parks People grant that allowed us to double its size, again with help from a large group of BB volunteers, the Mississauga Master Gardeners, plus students from Bronte College and Port Credit Secondary School.

This summer, "sprucing" up was needed.  Beloved by park-goers, the garden continues to flourish - so much so, that this spring the plants appeared to be exploding out of the raised beds! They needed to be tamed. In July, Neil and Catherine, with helpers Ava, and Juliette, thinned out the jungle and replaced the biggies with smaller species. The result is an opulent garden that stays within bounds.

The next step in refurbishing the garden will be to make new painted murals to decorate the sides. We'll be looking for artistic volunteers, so if you're interested, watch for notices of our garden mural-painting event this fall!

Spruce Park is located at 280 Angelene Street near Port Credit, Mississauga. Stop by and enjoy the garden!
